I think you can join every race apart from the events which take place at the Rockingham track.

To join you just have to join the server on time. You can find the password for the server below this chatbox.

Good luck!

Long Laps at Kyoto GP Long
youliftyoulose, Monday, December 31 2012 - 07:38:05 // comment: 6

Race 3 and 4 of the 2nd season of the FZ5 series of Absolute Beginners race took place at the Kyoto GP Long. Each event of the FZ5
series consists of 2 individual races, a short sprint race (no mandatory pit stops) and a feature race ( much longer with 1 or more
mandatory pit stops). A one lap qualifying session put Linde (2:44.20) on pole with over a 1 second gap on Duck Tape. The
championship leader Mazdarati was saddled with a 16% restriction and did well to qualify 6th. Daniel, who had shown decent
pace in practice went off track during his hot lap and qualified a miserable 13th leaving him a lot of work to do in the sprint race.

Mazdarati getting swamped at the start by LRK-racer and Wheldon 77 who both have a little more horsepower on board.

Duck Tape takes a photo finish win over Linde in both the sprint and feature race.

As the 1st race got underway Duck Tape made a bid for the lead but was unable to make the move stick. Everyone gave each other
enough space to make it through the first lap without any major incidents.

Muc, who had an excellent grid spot, starting 4th on the 2nd row, for some reason added an extra 3% to his required restriction
putting him at 16%, equal with rival Mazdarati. One can only wonder how his pit crew made such a blunder. Perhaps he was just
getting used to the inevitable increasing restrictions and thought he may as well get used to it. Certainly a very interesting
strategy by the LV team.

On lap 2, Daniel doing well to move from 13th to 10th, thought he would gain another spot when Postal spun in front of him.
As he checked up to avoid contact with Postal, LRK-racer and LucasMcFly seized the opportunity and drove by leaving
Daniel not in 9th, as he had hoped but back in 11th.

Luca ran wide on the final turn with only 2 laps to go letting Mazdarati get back into 6th place.

Up at the front, Duck Tape and Linde were having a great battle. On 2nd to last lap Duck Tape finally got by after a small wiggle
from Linde at the end of the straight.

As the sprint race finished up Duck Tape hung on for the win with Linde in 2nd and Dalda in 3rd. All three cars on the podium
had restrictions of 10%.

As the top 6 cars added more restriction the feature race was set to get underway.

Mazdarati, started in 6th with the highest restriction in the field with 17%. Muc decided to go with his appropriate restriction
and set his intake to 14%.

Once again, everyone made it through the 1st lap cleanly. Black, feeling particularly racy, made a nice move on Muc and
took 4th before the 1st lap was over. Linde also took advantage of a small wiggle from Duck Tape and moved into 1st on
the start of lap 2.

Daniel, trapped back in 12th, was finding it difficult to pass the 10% restricted cars, decided to pit early on lap 2 and get
back on track with some clear air in front of him. Hopefully he could put in some fast laps and jump some of the field by
the time they made their pit stops.

Up at front, Duck Tape and Linde were once again having an epic battle, swapping 1st place more than once. By lap 6
Duck Tape, tired of chasing Linde, decided to pit early, hopefully coming out in front at the end when it counted. After
a quick stop, he returned to the track back in 10th spot with Wheldon just a few car lengths in front of him. Th strategy
seemed to pay of as only 2 laps later he was back in 7th and still closing on the cars in front,

At the halfway point in the race, Dalda (2nd), unexpectedly decided to retire, gifting everyone with one free position.

By lap 13 Duck Tape had caught up to 3rd place Mazdarati. Mazdarati, recognizing the speed differencial (given the 4%
difference in restriction), did not make it difficult to pass.

With 5 laps to go Linde was way in front of the rest of the field. His lead was over 20 seconds to 2nd place Duck Tape.
The only question remained would the 20+ seconds be enough to make his pit stop and still come out in front. It didn’t
take long to find out. On lap 19, Linde made his mandatory stop. As he left his pit box, Duck Tape was screaming down
the straight in front of the pits. As Duck Tape passed pit exit he could see Linde ahead in the distance. If only he could
beat him to the chicane, the win should be his. With his foot mashed on the accelerator, he passed Linde just as they
were about to brake for the chicane. As they came out of the chicane. Duck Tape emerged was in 1st. Linde wasn’t
done yet. As they raced down the straight, Linde snuck up the inside of Duck Tape and regained the lead. Duck Tape
returned the favour a few corners later and grabbed 1st again. That was the final pass the top 2 would make. As they
crossed the finish line for the final time Duck Tape held on for a 0.08 second victory over Linde. Muc came in 3rd half
a minute later.

Daniel’s pit strategy also paid off as he went into lap 19 in 6th spot, hard on the trail of Black although he could not get
close enough to make a pass.

The racing could not get much closer as only 6 seconds covered positions 3rd through 6th.

See you next week at Fern Bay Green.

Happy New Year!
