I think you can join every race apart from the events which take place at the Rockingham track.

To join you just have to join the server on time. You can find the password for the server below this chatbox.

Good luck!

Lucas McFly Wins His First Victory at AB
youliftyoulose, Monday, February 11 2013 - 09:47:27 // comment: 3

Race 7 and 8 of the 2nd season of the FZ5 series of Absolute Beginners race took place at Blackwood in the reverse direction. Each event of the FZ5 series consists of 2 individual races, a short sprint race (no mandatory pit stops) and a feature race (much longer with 1 or more mandatory pit stops). A one lap qualifying session put rookie Carl on the pole (1:24.50). Camoradi was the only other driver to get into the 1:24’s and joined Carl on the front row.

Rookie Carl wins his first race in AB with the FZ5

Another beautiful paint job by Camoradi!

Muc gets by Daniel after pressuring him into a mistake.

Xnyle robs DuckTape of 3rd on the podium in both races in the final laps.

LucasMcFly takes his 1st race victory at AB. Congratulations Lucas.

The continuing adding of more restrictions to previous race winners was beginning to take its toll on the usual front runners. Championship leader Mazdarati could only muster a 9th place start while Muc was right behind in 10th. The long straight a Blackwood would prove to be a tough hill to overcome as horsepower is king down the straight.

The drivers almost made it through the first lap cleanly had it not been for the chicane before the final turn. As DannyS and Knistling raced by Daniel down the straight, Knistling entered the chicane first with DannyS right on his bumper. The two cars touched and both cars went spinning. Once they straightened their cars out the race continued smoothly as everyone fell into line.

LucasMcFly (3rd), was eager to get on the podium, finally drafted by Camoradi on lap 4.

Duck Tape, doing yeoman’s work with his 16% was filling Camoradi’s mirrors lap after lap, but could not seem to get by. His persistence finally paid off in lap 15. Camoradi lost the tail end of his car on the final turn and spun onto the grass letting Duck Tape move in the final podium spot. Camoradi recovered back in 8th.

Xnyle, having a good race of his own, caught up to Duck Tape on the final lap and used his horsepower advantage to out drag him down the straight and steal 3rd away from the “sticky tape”.

Carl took lead the race from the start and took the victory with LucasMcFly taking 2nd. Xnyle grabbed the 3rd spot on the very last lap.

The top 6 cars added more restriction for the feature race. The feature race was scheduled for 40 laps with 1 mandatory pit stop

The feature race started out the same as the sprint with Carl out front. The first lap did not go as smoothly this time, however. As the cars bunched up in the first two corners, Mazdarati contacted DannyS sending the D-D driver spinning. By the time DannyS got his car pointed in the right direction he was dead last in 20th.

After the initial incident the cars settled out and prepared for the long haul of 40 laps.

Mazdarati (11th), wanting to get into some clear track decided to pit on lap 2 and get out of the traffic.

Carl, who was looking in good shape for another victory, unfortunately got disconnected on lap 4 and left the race. His bad luck was good luck for LucasMcFly who inherited the lead.
Torberkel and Gutolz got together on lap 5 in the final turn and sent each other spinning. Mazdarati quietly slipped by into 13th.

DuckTape was once again having an amazing race with his 17% restriction was managing to keep the front 3 in sight as he hung on to 4th. His team mate Weaver was protecting his back by running in 5th. Interestingly DuckTape made his pit stop with team mate Weaver doing the same several laps later. To DuctTape’s surprise Weaver showed up several seconds in front of him. Would there be any team orders here?

Muc, 2nd in the championship, was running 3rd when he pitted. He was a bit too anxious and overcooked it going into pit lane and was caught speeding. The drive through penalty would be a killer as far as getting on podium would be concerned. As he came around on lap 21 to complete his drive through he returned to the track right on the bumper of Daniel, the driver who was next to him in the championship. Daniel, while happy to see Muc behind him, was left with the daunting task of keeping Muc at bay for almost half the race. For a few laps Daniel managed to hold off DuckTape, although Muc had just about rubbed the turtle decal off of the bumper of Daniel’s car. Daniel, after about 5 laps was almost starting to believe he could stay in front of the STO car. As has happened before the pressure became too much. As small wiggle from Daniel’s car on lap 25 was all Muc needed to get alongside and it was all over. Daniel radioed to team mate Mazdarati, who was only about 4 seconds ahead that he had held off Muc as long as he could. Mazdarati thanked Daniel for his efforts as Muc hoped Mazdarati wiould “wait up” for him.

Postal, who had been running 2nd for most of the race, pitted at the end of lap 36. He was dismayed when he returned to the track to find himself in 5th.

For DucTape, who was now in 3rd, had more to worry about than catching his team mate Weaver. As had happened in the sprint race Xnyle had caught up with him and was showing signs of bumping him off the podium again. This time Xnyle did not wait until the last lap to show his hand. As they raced down the straight on lap 39, Xnyle once again used the superior power of his car to take 3rd spot away from DuckTape.

In the end LucasMcFly won his first AB victory, well deserved after a couple of years of racing with us. Weaver did a great job to outperform his team mate and claim 2nd. Xnyle broke up the DWR party by taking 3rd on the podium.

Fittingly, the top 3 in the championship, Mazdarati, Muc and Daniel followed each other around the track for the final laps, although back in 9th, 10th and 11th.

The standings have closed up considerably. The action should heat up next week as the season begins to wind down.

See you next week at South City again with the FZ5.
