I think you can join every race apart from the events which take place at the Rockingham track.

To join you just have to join the server on time. You can find the password for the server below this chatbox.

Good luck!

Aid Becomes Another Double Winner at AB!
youliftyoulose, Monday, February 25 2013 - 08:36:01 // comment: 3

Race 11 and 12 of the 2nd season of the FZ5 series of Absolute Beginners race took place at Westhill. This was to be the final weekend of racing for the FZ5 cup. Each event of the FZ5 series consists of 2 individual races, a short sprint race (no mandatory pit stops) and a feature race (much longer with 1 or more mandatory pit stops). While both 1st and 2nd had all be wrapped up in the championship race by Mazdarati and Muc respectively, the 3rd spot was still very much up for grabs as torberkel held the spot by one point over Daniel. Several other drivers like LucasMcFly, DuckTape and Camoradi were all well within striking range. A one lap qualifying session put Aid on the pole as the only driver to get his car into the 1:54’s.

Black seemed unable to recognize his the old paint scheme of Weefelly as he sends him to the back.

Aid steals victory away from Camoradi by 0.03 seconds.

Wee has an even closer finish with Daniel as he blows by the tortoise by 0.02.

DWR team mates battle for position.

A rare sight to see the tortoise in front of the hare with only 1 lap left in the race.

Aid makes it a double victory with room to spare in the feature race.

As the sprint race got underway, Xnyle and BaronRojo made contact in the early going. BaronRojo ended up running wide and got into the gravel. By the time he recovered to the track he had dropped from 4th to 17th. Gredghog was also having his troubles as he followed BaronRojo into the same gravel trap although he did it all on his own.

Cruel Garfield want to get a jump from his last position on the grid and did so, unfortunately the early start cost him a “stop and go” penalty.

As lap 2 was coming to a close, two team mates for some reason thought it was time to fight for position early on. Black gave Weefelly a “welcome back” tap in the rear quarter panel and sent him for a spin. I guess Black thought that Weefully could make it up have all the extra horsepower for this race. Weefelly got turned around and settled into 15th place.

Meanwhile in midfield, the two combatants for the 3rd spot in the championship race were conveniently running nose to tail. Torberkel had Daniel in his sights and was pushing hard to get on the tortoises’ bumper. While Daniel was desperately trying to get by Postal and give himself some breathing room, torberkel had to contend with Weefelly and Muc coming through the field.

Up at the front Aid was having the race all his way until he found how deadly the grass can be on lap 7. His 9 second lead over Camoradi vanished as he recovered from the gravel and took up 2nd. With only 5 laps to go he was going to use all of his extra horsepower to catch up to Camoradi if he was going to claim victory. As has happened before the race came down to the final lap. As Aid slowly made back the ground he had lost over his earlier mistake he caught right up to Camoradi as they enter the final turn on the final lap. Camoradi tried his best to hold off the hard charging Aid but lost the win on a photo finish by only 0.03 seconds! LRK-racer had a good race and took 3rd on the podium. Daniel managed to finish one spot in front of torberkel leaving the race for 3rd in the championship a dead heat.

The top 6 cars added more restriction for the feature race. The feature race was scheduled for 29 laps with 1 mandatory pit stop

The feature race started out with Aid at the front. Camoradi, who was eager to get another shot at victory unfortunately had a timeout problem which sent him to the start from pit lane all but ending his chance of a victory.

This time the race had a relatively clean 1st lap as the drivers settled in for a long race. LRK-racer found himself in a drag race with Madarati on lap 2. While they did not touch, Mazdarati found the left side grass and LRK-racer found the right. Mazdarati managed to hang on and loose only a couple of places while LRK-racer was not so lucky, finding himself back in 9th after starting 3rd.

On lap 3, torberkel decided his best strategy was to get out of the traffic into some clear air and make up some time, so he dove in for an early pit stop.

On lap 7 Xnyle saw a small opening between DuckTape and DannyS and tried to squeeze through. He almost made but the close racing sent him and DuckTape for a ride through the gravel with DannyS speeding away in the distance. The incident played well into the hands of Daniel as he caught up to the group and moved into 5th.

Mazdarati, adopting a bit of torberkel’s strategy went for an early pit stop on lap 7.

Up at the front things were fairly static, Aid had a comfortable lead over 2nd place Weefelly. Black was once again chasing his team mate in 3rd.

Xnyle, who had been chasing Daniel for what seemed like half the race finally made a mistake after the chicane on lap 17 and found the grass. Daniel was pleased to look in his mirrors and see a clear track behind him.

As Weefelly fell back to 3rd after making his pit stop he soon caught up to 2nd place Black. As had not happened in the previous race, this time the overtake went smoothly, and Weefelly acknowledged Black with a tap of his tail lights. Obviously things had gotten straightened out between races in a short team meeting.

Aid made his pit stop on lap 21. He had enough of a gap to Weefelly to come back in 1st.

As the race was coming to a close only two questions remained. Would Aid be able to hang on to his diminishing lead over Weefelly and would Daniel, who had not pitted yet, have enough of a gap to come out in front of torberkel. Weefelly had just set a pb on lap 25 and was being urged to keep up the pressure. Daniel looked up at his pit board and saw his lead over torberkel well over 30 seconds, surely enough time to get in and out of the pits, barring any mistakes. The pit stop for Daniel went smoothly. The only drama came as he returned to the race track. As he was getting back up to speed a car came up quickly behind him as he entered the sweeping turns after the straight. Not a place he wanted to go side by side. A longer look in his mirrors brought relief as it was his team mate Mazdaraiti. While there were no team orders at THR, Daniel felt confident that they would be able to avoid an incident like BWR racing had. A quick radio communication confirmed that everything was under control and not to worry. Weefelly, on the other hand, pushed a little too hard and allowed Aid to increase his lead slightly.

Aid made it a double victory as he drove a great race. Weefelly was happy to get 2nd acknowledging the extra power didn’t hurt. Black had a great race to join his team mate on the podium in 3rd
Congratulations to Mazdarati as he wins another championship and a gold medal. Lost in mid field this race was Muc who earned a silver medal for his efforts. Daniel was overjoyed to pick up another bronze medal.

See you next week at as we start a new S2 season.
