I think you can join every race apart from the events which take place at the Rockingham track.

To join you just have to join the server on time. You can find the password for the server below this chatbox.

Good luck!

Comeback Kids at Westhill

Race 3 of the 22nd season of the S2 series of Absolute Beginners race took place at Westhill International. The 2nd most powerful car in the lineup, the FO8, was the car designated for this race. A nice field of 20 drivers set out to put their cars on the pole. As was the case in the first two races of the season two drivers battled it out for the top spot on the grid. After the 20 minutes of qualifying Mazdarati had bested LRK-racer with a 1:38.22. Camoradi showing good pace put his car right behind the front row sitting 3rd on the grid.

Mazdarati and LRK-racer don't waste time in battling for the lead early in lap 1.

With the championship points race deadlocked at the front it would remain to be seen which of the leading drivers could forge ahead.

With a long wide run down to T1 you would think there would be a reasonable chance that the race would have a clean first lap. If you did think that you would be wrong. As the cars raced to the first high speed corner, Space (P4) could not hold his car on the tarmac and ran wide onto the grass. As he fought to keep his car pointing in the right direction he eventually careened back across the track, right in front of a surprised toberkel. The contact increased the spin rate for Space and sent toberkel into the metal barrier. Daniel was next to pile drive into Space damaging his car in the process. Mighpa was unable to avoid Daniel and also ended up in the grass, although his car suffered minimal damage. Daniel, Space and toberkel were quick to restart their race from the pits.

Things did not go well further up the field either. LRK-racer had a great start, making a nice inside move on Mazdarati through T1 taking the lead. Mazdarat seemed to get a bit of a run on LRK-racer a couple of corners later. As LRK-racer was checking his mirrors to see exactly how close Mazdarati's car was to his, he forgot to pay enough attention to the track in front of him and got his right side tires onto the grass. As most of the drivers knew that meant an instant spin and a trip through the gravel. With virtually no damage LRK-racer got back on the racing surface losing a minimal amount of time. He returned to the track back in P10 with a lot of work to do to get back up to the front.

Lambat looks over at his team mate (LRK-racer) as he concedes P2. Both cars looked set to finish on the podium, unfortunately it was not to be.

As lap 2 got underway Camoradi (P2) and Lambat (P3) set up to chase Mazdarati around the track. Camoradi did not keep his lofty position for long as he got his tires on the grass in the final chicane and left the track dropping back to P6. This moved Lambat into P2 with Bandes up into P3. Bandes was one of 3 drivers who chose to go with the softer R2 tires on all 4 wheels, a gamble that he hoped would pay off later in the race.

By lap 6 both LRK-racer and Daniel were making their way through the field after recovering from their early incidents. LRK-racer blasted by Bandes to move into P3 and Daniel had worked his way up to P13.

Bandes was finding his soft setup not working as well as he had hoped it would. By lap 10 he had dropped backed to P7 and was in danger of losing more places. He did not find out if his tire strategy was going to pay off as he ran wide in T3 and found the gravel. Rather than continue he decided to retire. Meanwhile LRK-racer had caught up to the gearbox of team mate Lambat. Lambat, not wanting to hold his team mate up did not contest the position and let LRK-racer move into P2 and take up chasing Mazdarati.

By the time everyone had completed their mandatory pit stops the order at the front had Mazdarati leading by a large margin over LRK-racer who in turn had a sizable lead over team mate Lambat. Things may well have stayed that way except for some bad luck to befall the GRT team. With only 5 laps remaining Lambat suffer some technical difficulties and was disconnect from the race dropping out of contention. The disconnect vaulted Camoradi up into the last podium spot behind Mazdarati and LRK-racer.

Daniel sets up Norbert for the pass on the final lap getting a little help from rookie Daniel.

Daniel, now in P7, was could see Norbert just a few car lengths down the road. He began to push hard to see if he could finish higher than he had started. After a couple of failed passing attempts, Daniel made good his pass on the final lap in T1 to capture P6.

Mazdarati took the win and regained the lead in the championship, with LRK-racer claiming 2nd. Camoradi had a great race to finish 3rd on the podium.

Mazdarati no longer needs his front tires as he shreds them as he crossed the finish line for the win!

It was a race of great come backs as Camoradi finished P3 after dropping to P8, LRK-racer finished P2 coming back from P10 and Daniel climbed all the way back from P19 to P6.
